The Short Answer for Bowie
Diakite Roofing & Restoration handles roof replacement for Bowie homes in Prince George's County, where Levitt and Sons turned the old Belair Estate into Belair at Bowie after 1957 and those roofs are now wearing out on the same schedule. It starts with a free inspection and a written scope.
- How long does a Bowie roof replacement take? Most homes are done in one day, tear-off to cleanup.
- Why are the neighbors re-roofing too? Belair at Bowie went up as repeated models, so the roofs age together.
- What is hardest on a Bowie roof? Summer heat in the attic, plus hail and wind in spring.
- Who issues the permit? Prince George's County's Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement.

The Difference
Why Bowie homeowners pick us for roof replacement
Plenty of Bowie roofs have a twin a few doors down, and our owner still climbs yours with a camera before any number gets written. You get every photo. The crew strips to the bare deck, replaces the boards that have gone soft, corrects the venting, and lays a new Owens Corning shingle system. Most homes are done in a single day.

Good to Know
Roof replacement in Bowie's Levitt neighborhoods
Belair at Bowie and the Levitt years
In 1957 Levitt and Sons bought the Belair Estate, once the plantation of Provincial Governor Samuel Ogle, and built Belair at Bowie on it. The town annexed the Levitt land two years later and became a city in 1963. Most Bowie residents still live in that 1960s community, on streets named in alliterative sections.
Houses that went up in one push come due in one push. When the first few roofs on your street get replaced, that is a good time to have yours looked at for free.
For us that means a familiar set of houses: the same Levitt models repeated block after block, with the original decking still under the shingles. We tear off to the boards, swap out any that have failed, and fix the ventilation while the deck is open.

Excellent service from start to finish! The team is professional, responsive, and delivers high-quality work. I highly recommend them!
Attic heat and the life of a shingle
Bowie's climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. The Glenn Dale station's 1991-2020 normals put about 39 days a year at 90 degrees or above, and an attic that cannot breathe bakes the shingles from underneath.
So the ventilation gets worked out on every replacement, intake low and exhaust at the ridge, balanced to the attic. The free inspection tells you whether the venting on your house is part of the problem.

Same model, same weak spots
Belair at Bowie was built as repeated models, so roof geometry, pitch, vent layout and original decking match from house to house. A detail that fails on one roof tends to fail on the next one built from the same plan.
That cuts both ways. The low-slope section over a breezeway or carport is the usual trouble spot, and it gets membrane in place of shingles. You can also hold our bid up against a neighbor's roof that really is the same roof, and you see photos of what is failing on yours before we write a number.

Open ground, wind and debris
US 50, the John Hanson Highway, runs east to west through the city, and US 301 and MD 3 skim its eastern edge. Storms get a clear run across that open ground, and in Bowie wind and hail do more damage to roofs than snow load does.
Where mature trees hang over a lot, limbs and leaves add to it, packing valleys and gutters after every blow.
On a replacement the valleys get new valley metal, and step flashing at each wall is woven into the courses rather than smeared with sealant. Those are the joints that let water in first when a storm pushes rain sideways.

Hail claims and the county permit
Hail tends to reach Prince George's County in the April to June window, and on a street of matching roofs it hits them all at once. Your carrier still pays on your own slopes, so our inspection chalks test squares, counts the hits, and photographs the bruised shingles and the dents in gutters and vent metal. The scope is written in Xactimate.
The re-roof permit comes from the Prince George's County Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement, and we pull it as part of the job. We work Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm. Call (667) 200-6656 for the free inspection.

Watch For These
Signs a Bowie roof is due for replacement
- Granules washing into the gutters, or shingles curling and cupping across whole slopes
- Several houses of the same Levitt model on your street already re-roofed
- Leaks where a low-slope breezeway or carport roof ties into the main roof
- An attic that stays hot and stuffy all summer, a sign the venting is not doing its job
- Lifted or missing tabs along the rakes and ridge after a spring storm
Seeing one of these? Call (667) 200-6656 or book a free inspection.

Our Work
Roof replacement jobs, from tear-off to finished roof

Included on a Full Replacement
Gutter, guard and downspouts come with a Bowie roof replacement
A full roof replacement on a Bowie home includes 100 feet of gutter, gutter guard and downspouts, put up on the same job by the same crew. There is no second visit to book and no second invoice, and when a spring storm dumps on the new roof, the water lands in a gutter hung for it.
Included with a full roof replacement. It is not a standalone service, and there is no end date on it.

A Bowie roof replacement, start to finish
- 01
Free inspection
Our owner gets up on the roof, photographs each slope, and tells you plainly if your Bowie roof needs replacing now or still has some life in it.
- 02
Scope, color and date
The written scope lists your shingle color, the gutter package and a set install date. We pull the Prince George's County permit as part of the job.
- 03
Tear-off and deck repair
Everything comes off down to the deck. Soft or broken boards are replaced, and ice and water barrier goes on at the eaves and valleys.
- 04
Shingles, vents and cleanup
Underlayment, Owens Corning shingles, flashing and ridge vent go on, any low-slope section gets membrane, and a magnet sweep of the yard and driveway closes out the day.
Working out how to pay for it? Financing is offered through Enhancify and its lending partners.
Good to Know
Bowie roof replacement: questions we get asked
How long does a roof replacement take on a Bowie house?
Most are done in one day, with tear-off in the morning and the yard cleaned up by evening. A steep or complicated roof can spill into a second day, and your written scope will say if yours is one of those.
Why is half my Bowie street getting new roofs?
Because the houses were built together. Levitt and Sons bought the Belair Estate in 1957 and built Belair at Bowie as repeated models, and most of Bowie still lives in that 1960s community. Roofs of the same age on the same design wear out on roughly the same schedule. If your neighbors are getting quotes, book the free inspection and decide on your own roof's evidence.
Does Bowie's summer heat matter for a new roof?
It does. The Glenn Dale station, about 3 miles from central Bowie, averages roughly 39 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter, and a poorly vented attic holds that heat against the deck. We check and correct the ventilation on every replacement.
Who issues the roofing permit for a Bowie replacement?
Bowie is in Prince George's County, and residential re-roof permits come from the county's Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement rather than the city. We pull it as part of the job, and the county site lists the requirements if you want to read them yourself.
What is included with a full roof replacement in Bowie?
100 feet of gutter, gutter guard and downspouts, installed on the same Bowie job and written into the scope. The new roof gets Owens Corning architectural shingles, and most homes are finished in one day.
