The Short Answer for Clarksville
Diakite Roofing & Restoration does roof replacement on Clarksville homes in western Howard County, where most roofs are large, cut up by gables and dormers, and sitting on open ground that takes the wind. It starts with a free inspection and a written scope.
- How long does a Clarksville roof replacement take? One day on most homes, big ones included, because the material order is settled before the crew shows up.
- Is wind or snow the bigger risk here? Wind and hail. The climate is humid subtropical, so snow load is rarely what fails.
- Do you work on the older houses near MD-108? Yes. Where a roof meets stone or brick, the flashing gets rebuilt with it.
- Who issues the permit? Howard County's Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits.

The Difference
Why Clarksville homeowners hire us to replace their roof
A big Clarksville roof has more places to leak than most, at each valley and at each wall where a dormer or gable ties in. Our owner walks all of it with a camera before we put a price on anything, and you get the photos. Then the crew strips to the deck, fixes what has gone soft, and installs a new Owens Corning shingle system, usually inside one day.

Good to Know
Roof replacement on Clarksville's big, open lots
Farm ground that turned into large houses
Clarksville stayed farm country longer than most of Howard County. In the 1930s agriculture and limestone mining were still the main work here, with apple orchards on the surrounding land, and much of that ground was later sold off for large new homes.
So the typical Clarksville replacement is a big house with a complicated roof, and a lot of them went up in the 1990s and early 2000s. That first set of shingles is now near the end of its life, often a few doors from an older house that has been re-roofed twice already.
With that mix, no two bids look alike. We measure on site, strip to the deck, replace decking that has gone soft, and get the material order right the first time, since a roof this size leaves no slack for a second supply run.

Excellent service from start to finish! The team is professional, responsive, and delivers high-quality work. I highly recommend them!
Freeze and thaw on shaded slopes
The Laurel 3 W station, the closest NOAA record to Clarksville, shows about 75 days a year when a night freeze gives way to an afternoon thaw. Water held in a shingle lap pries at it every time it freezes, and the slopes kept damp under hardwood shade get the worst of it.
In the cold months a new shingle may not seal by itself, so we hand seal the rakes, eaves, and ridge. The free inspection also tells you if your roof can hold out until warmer weather.

Gables, dormers, and long valleys
The newer Clarksville houses tend to have several gables, front-facing dormers, and sometimes a turret or a bay. Every place two roof planes meet is a valley and every place a roof meets a wall needs step flashing, so these roofs carry far more of both than a simple ranch does.
We rebuild the valleys with ice and water membrane under new metal, weave step flashing into each course at the walls, and set new boots on the pipes. A low-slope section over a porch gets a membrane, because shingles will not shed water at that pitch.

Hardwood canopy, long driveways, and leaf litter
When the fields were sold off, a lot of mature hardwood stayed, and now it stands right over the houses. Under that canopy we find limb strikes, mossy slopes that stay damp, and valleys packed with leaves every fall.
Long private drives and deep setbacks off MD-108 and MD-32 shape the job too. Before install day we work out where the material truck and the dumpster can sit, so the roof still gets done in one day.
Ventilation gets sized while the deck is open. A shaded attic that exhausts air but takes in very little keeps the sheathing damp through the winter.

Hail season and the Howard County permit
Hail and straight-line wind hit this part of Maryland hardest from April into June, and a bruised shingle rarely shows from the driveway. For a claim we chalk test squares on each slope, count the impacts, photograph the gutters and vent metal, and write the scope in Xactimate before your adjuster visits.
Clarksville has no permit office of its own, so the Howard County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits covers it. We are open Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and Google has us at 5.0. Call (667) 200-6656 to set up the free inspection.

Watch For These
Signs a Clarksville roof is ready to be replaced
- Granules collecting in the gutters and bare patches on the sunniest slopes
- A first-generation roof from the 1990s or early 2000s starting to curl at the edges
- Leaks or stains where a dormer, gable, or chimney meets the main roof
- Moss and packed leaves in valleys that sit under hardwood shade
- Lifted or missing shingles along hips, ridges, and rakes after a windy storm

Our Work
From bare deck to finished shingles: recent replacement jobs

Included on a Full Replacement
Gutter, guard and downspouts come with a Clarksville replacement
A full roof replacement in Clarksville includes 100 feet of gutter, gutter guard and downspouts, installed on the same job. You do not book a second visit or pay a second invoice for it. With the leaf drop from the hardwoods around most Clarksville lots, guarded gutters keep the water off your new roof moving to the downspouts.
Included with a full roof replacement. It is not a standalone service, and there is no end date on it.

How a Clarksville roof replacement goes
- 01
Free inspection
Our owner walks the roof and photographs each slope, then tells you straight whether it needs replacing now or can wait a few more years.
- 02
Written scope and date
The scope comes in writing with your shingle color, the gutter package, and a firm install date planned around the weather and access down your driveway. We pull the Howard County permit as part of the job.
- 03
Tear-off and deck check
Every old layer comes off down to the deck. Soft or broken decking is replaced, and ice and water barrier goes in at the eaves and up each valley.
- 04
New system and cleanup
Underlayment, Owens Corning shingles, step and valley flashing, and ridge vent go on, with membrane on any low-slope section. Before we leave, magnets go over the lawn and the driveway.
Working out how to pay for it? Financing is offered through Enhancify and its lending partners.

Clarksville roof replacement: frequently asked questions
How long does a roof replacement take on a large Clarksville house?
Most homes are done in one day, tear-off to cleanup. A very large or steep roof with a lot of dormers can spill into a second day, and your written scope says which to expect.
Why are so many Clarksville roofs coming due now?
A lot of Clarksville was built on former farm and orchard land, and plenty of those homes date from the 1990s and early 2000s. Columbia's River Hill village opened on the Clarksville side in 1990. Those original shingles are now near the end of their life, so if your house is from that era, the free inspection is a good first step.
Can you replace a roof in Clarksville during the winter?
Often, yes. Shingles may not seal on their own in cold weather, so on a winter install we hand seal the rakes, eaves, and ridge. We will also tell you if your roof can safely wait until spring.
Who issues the roofing permit for a Clarksville replacement?
Clarksville is an unincorporated community, so permits come from the Howard County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits, not from the town. We pull the permit as part of the job, and the county site is the place to read the rules for yourself.
What is included with a full roof replacement in Clarksville?
Owens Corning shingles plus 100 feet of gutter, gutter guard, and downspouts, all on the same job. The gutter package is written into the scope, and a storm claim is scoped in Xactimate.
