The Short Answer for Rockville
Diakite Roofing & Restoration handles roof replacement for Rockville homes in Montgomery County, where whole neighborhoods went up in the same few postwar years and now come due together. The first step is a free inspection, and the second is a written scope.
- How long does a roof replacement take on a Rockville home? Usually one day, from tear-off in the morning to a clean site by evening.
- Why is my whole street re-roofing? The houses were built at once, so they wear out at once.
- Can you install in winter? Often. Inside the frost window we hand seal the rakes, eaves, and ridge.
- Who issues the permit? The City of Rockville permit office.

The Difference
Why Rockville homeowners choose us for roof replacement
Whether it's a Twinbrook rambler or one of the newer houses off Rockville Pike, our owner is on the roof with a camera before there's a price, and you get every photo. The crew strips it to bare wood, checks the deck, which on the postwar houses is usually plank, and lays a new Owens Corning shingle system. Most homes are finished in a single day.

Good to Know
Roof replacement on Rockville's postwar streets
A city of roofs the same age
Much of Rockville, the Montgomery County seat, went up in one burst in the middle of the last century. The city took in the Twinbrook subdivision in 1949, hundreds of homes at once, and after Congressional Airport closed in 1954 its land went to houses and to Congressional Plaza, open by 1958.
That is why whole streets here come due together, and why a free inspection is worth having as soon as the neighbors start getting quotes.
For a roofer that is a very specific set of houses: ramblers and split-levels from the late 1940s through the 1960s, with plank decking under two or three generations of shingles. We strip to bare wood, replace the boards that have failed, and correct the ventilation while the deck is open.

Excellent service from start to finish! The team is professional, responsive, and delivers high-quality work. I highly recommend them!
Why the frost calendar decides install day
Rockville is in USDA hardiness zone 7a, so the average annual winter low is 0 to 5 degrees. That matters on install day because a shingle isn't finished when it's nailed; the sealant strip on each course has to warm up and bond to the course under it.
On a cold-season install we hand seal the rakes, eaves, and ridge rather than nailing it down and hoping for a warm week, and the free inspection tells you whether you can wait for better weather or not.

Low-slope tie-ins and newer rooflines
The low-slope sections over porches, carports, and breezeways on the older ramblers need a membrane, not shingles. The contemporary homes of New Mark Commons, from 1967, bring their own low-slope and shed-roof geometry.
Toward Rockville Pike and I-270 the houses get newer and bigger. A 1990s colonial there gets bid on its own, separately from the rambler down the street, and on either one you see photographs of what's failing before we write a number.

Trees, creeks, and what they leave on a roof
Rock Creek, Cabin John Creek, and Watts Branch all cross the city, and the mature planting along them brings limb strikes and leaf load. The canopy that makes these streets pleasant also keeps north slopes damp and drops debris into valleys and gutters.
The Rockville 1 NE station's 1991-2020 normals count about 10 days a year with an inch of rain or more. When it comes, the valleys and wall joints take it first.
On a replacement those valleys get new valley metal, and the step flashing at every wall is woven into the courses rather than smeared with sealant. Ventilation gets sized at the same time, because an attic running exhaust with almost no intake pushes moisture into the sheathing all winter.

Hail claims and the permit
Rockville's hail and wind season runs April into June. When there's a claim, your carrier gets our inspection record, with test squares chalked on each slope and the impacts counted, photos of the field shingles and of the dents in gutter and vent metal, and a scope written in Xactimate, so the estimate gets argued line by line.
Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and our Google rating is 5.0. For the free inspection, call (667) 200-6656.

Watch For These
Signs a Rockville roof is due for replacement
- Shingles curling, cupping, or shedding granules across whole slopes
- Neighbors on the same street re-roofing, because houses built together come due together
- Two or three generations of shingles already on a postwar rambler or split-level
- Water at a porch, carport, or breezeway where a low-slope section meets the main roof
- Damp, debris-packed valleys on slopes that sit under heavy tree cover
Seeing one of these? Call (667) 200-6656 or book a free inspection.

Our Work
Roof replacement jobs, from tear-off to finished roof

Included on a Full Replacement
Gutter, guard and downspouts included on a Rockville replacement
Every full roof replacement we do in Rockville comes with 100 feet of gutter, gutter guard and downspouts on the same job. It is part of the replacement rather than a second trip and a second invoice, and under a tree canopy that drops debris into valleys and gutters, it means the water from a new roof has somewhere to go.
Included with a full roof replacement. It is not a standalone service, and there is no end date on it.
Book a Free Rockville InspectionOur Process
How a Rockville roof replacement runs
- 01
Free inspection
Our owner walks the roof, photographs every slope, and tells you honestly whether a Rockville replacement is warranted yet or whether the roof has years left.
- 02
Written scope and date
You get the scope in writing with your shingle color, the gutter package, and a firm install date, with the frost calendar taken into account. The Montgomery County permit is pulled as part of the job.
- 03
Tear-off and plank-deck check
The old layers come off to bare board. Split or rotted plank sheathing gets replaced, then ice and water barrier goes down at the eaves and valleys.
- 04
New system and cleanup
Underlayment, Owens Corning shingles, flashing, and ridge vent go on, with membrane on any low-slope section, then we run magnets over the lawn and driveway before we pull out.
Working out how to pay for it? Financing is offered through Enhancify and its lending partners.
Good to Know
Rockville roof replacement: frequently asked questions
How long does a roof replacement take on a Rockville home?
Usually one day, from tear-off in the morning to a clean site by evening. A steep or cut-up roofline can run into a second day, and the written scope says which yours is, along with an install date set against the frost calendar.
Why are so many roofs on my Rockville street being replaced at once?
Because they were built at once. Rockville annexed the Twinbrook subdivision in 1949, adding hundreds of homes, and after Congressional Airport closed in 1954 its land was developed for houses and shopping too. Housing built in one push wears out in one push. If your neighbors are getting quotes, get the free inspection.
Can you replace a roof in Rockville in the winter?
Often, but timing matters. With the average first frost around October 21 and the last around April 16, the shingle sealant strip may not bond on its own in the cold months, so we hand seal the rakes, eaves, and ridge and tell you which side of the calendar your install falls on.
Who issues the roofing permit for a Rockville replacement?
Rockville is a city with its own permit office. The City of Rockville says properties in the city obtain permits from the city before certain construction work starts, and it takes applications through its MGO Connect portal. Check with the city on whether a roof replacement at your address needs one.
What comes with a full roof replacement in Rockville right now?
100 feet of gutter, gutter guard, and downspouts on the same Rockville job. It goes into the written scope so nobody is arguing about it later, and it exists so the water coming off a new roof is handled the day the roof goes on.
